Ashamed and discouraged just the shell of a man
I'll tell you my sad story listen if you can
Whiskey from the bottle made a fool out of me
I lost a wife and a daughter and a son I may never see

Once I was so happy as a man could ever be
Everything I asked God for was given to me
A wife who loved me dearly a daughter fair as day
But I'll quite drinking from the bottle and gladly throw it away

It's been 5 long years since I've seen them it's been oh so long
And that whiskey bottle has caused me so much wrong
But I still have my hopes and my dreams that one day I will see

Now finally I have quite drinking I've thrown the bottle away
