The old man was ramblin’ on, a whiskey in his hand.
“Pardner, I have partied hard since my life first began.”
He had a cigar and a racing form and a twenty-somethin’ on each knee.
“My hearin’ and my hair are gone, but how much better could my life be?”

Lord, grant me the senility
To forget the folks I never want to see.
The good fortune to run into the ones I do.
And if I might have the eyesight to tell the difference too?

“It’s true I too have wrinkled on up and shrunk on down some,
But I never once was dumb enough to be under anyone’s thumb.
I’m still a runnin’ and a’ gunnin’, a’ blowin’ and a’ goin’ strong.
And I never put up with them preacher pups telling me I was wrong.”

The old man reeked and down his cheeks dripped tobacco chew.
He looked a lot like lizard gizzard in a pot of prune juice stewed.
“Might I inquire of such a spry old sire, what age you have reached up to?”
So proudly, he loudly screeched, “I am twenty two!”
