I think about the time gone by and where my life has gone,
And where it is and where its gonna go.
I ponder on a time when life seemed simple all along,
And I wonder what had happened to that though.

I see some friends who fall away like thirsty leaves of fall;
They are swept away in memories of mind.
I am growing higher like a tree and trying to grow tall,
But some thoughts I think have kept me back behind.

Chorus

I think I’ve thought about this thought about a thousand times,
And each time I think about it I just weep.
This thought of mine is out of line with what my hurt heart needs:
I’m a grain of sand in this hourglass of life.

I feel my soul expanding as my body slows its pace;
